IDCORE Research Engineer - Mitch Shields

Mitch’s is applying his diverse background in geology, diving, GIS and offshore surveying to develop an operations and maintenance strategy for major component exchange on a future floating wind farm for Ossian.  His work has to balance logistics, economics and engineering considerations. His interdisciplinary skills and strong stakeholder engagement have made him a valued member of the Ossian team, contributing both to project decision‑making and to wider sector understanding of how to scale and commercialise floating wind technologies.

IDCORE Research Engineer - Liam McAlister

Liam uses data‑driven modelling and machine‑learning techniques to understand how metocean conditions affect loads on floating offshore wind structures.  His work is helping SSE improve design efficiency and reduce costs.  His strong data‑science background, combined with IDCORE’s cohort training and SSE’s supportive environment all help him to make a valuable contribution through his research.

IDCORE Research Engineer - Ayse Yilmaz

Ayse knew very little about the offshore renewables sector when she applied to IDCORE, but the research she undertook for her interview really piqued her interest.  She is now working on a digital twin for the Aldbrough Hydrogen Pathfinder Project, a joint venture between SSE Thermal and Equinor.
