EngD Project Title: Floating Offshore Wind – A Multi-Discipline Engineering Investigation and Option Appraisal of Major Component Exchange Activities
Industrial Partner: SSE Renewables
About Mitch:
Mitch joined IDCORE after spending the past few years working in the offshore industry, transitioning from a career as a commercial diver to a data processor in the Marine Asset Integrity department at an Offshore Surveying company. This diverse experience fuelled a deep-seated passion for sustainability and renewable energy, leading Mitch to pursue the IDCORE program.
Mitch found IDCORE’s comprehensive curriculum the perfect fit, offering both the technical knowledge and industry context necessary for advancing his career in renewable energy. The chance to learn, retrain, and contribute to projects with immediate real-world applications was particularly appealing.
Despite the initial challenges of transitioning from a non-engineering background, Mitch adapted quickly. Leveraging his diverse experience and the supportive cohort environment, he was able to thrive in the program.
The Project:
Mitch is currently engaged with Ossian Offshore Wind Farm, a landmark joint venture between SSE Renewables, Marubeni Corporation, and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). This project, titled "Floating Offshore Wind – A Multi-Discipline Engineering Investigation and Option Appraisal of Major Component Exchange Activities," focuses on optimising Major Component Exchange (MCE) strategies for floating offshore wind turbines.
